GAHINGA LODGE
Located in western Uganda near Mgahinga National Park. Gahinga lodge is the perfect base for most of the activities in the National Park. It is strategically located near the Mgahinga national park.
The Traditional design used to build the spacious lodge; the hand-built Bandas reflect traditions of the local tribes around the area. Each room have ensuite luxury shower, fire place and etc.
The dining, the lounge and the gardens all represent the Traditional techniques. The lodge offer luxury services to visitors. The lodge has 8 beautifully established Bandas facing the Virunga Forest.
WIFI is around the lodge, locally inspired food, all-inclusive premium drinks menus all these services are provided by experienced working team and the lodge. Services like spa treatments and massages are available including the Rungu massage at the Gushimisha spa and sauna.
What to see and do in Gaginga Lodge
Gorilla Tracking:
Most of the visitors sleeping at Gahinga lodge come for the life time experience tracking mountain gorillas. The park is known for having one habituated gorilla family the Nyakagezi. The activity starts in the morning after briefing at the headquarter.
Golden monkey Tracking:
Gahinga lodge is the perfect base for Golden monkey tracking, it’s another reason why you should stay longer around Mgahinga National Park. Golden monkeys are rarely found elsewhere except in Virunga Forest that’s why many clients visiting the park do not miss this chance to see them.
Experiential Tourism for golden monkeys:
Golden monkey tracking is done on habituated groups, but Experiential tourism is done on semi-habituated monkeys. This practice allows visitors to know deeply the meaning of research and to protect. They will learn more about the primate life in the forest and etc.
Volcano Hike:
Mount Muhabura, Sabyinyo and Gahinga all make Mgahinga national park. Visitors base from Gahinga lodge and go for hike, Sabyinyo hike is more popular than the others. Most of the activities at Mgahinga National Park starts in the morning making Gahinga lodge a perfect place to spend the nights.
The Batwa experience:
Just like in Bwindi, even around Mgahinga National Park there are the Batwa people who used to stay in the forest previously. The Batwa trail will give you a clear picture of the life back for this people in the forest.
Nature walk:
Nature walk is also another activity in mgahinga National Park which can be done after gorilla tracking, though there are many nature walks in the park, the most popular one is Sabyinyo Gorge walk which leads to spectacular waterfalls and not forgetting the land scape and vegetation. Along the way, visitors may spot different bird species, duikers chameleons and etc.
Bird watching:
Mgahinga National Park is home to many bird life and some of them are Albertine Endemic. Some of the list include Rwenzori Turaco, Bronze sunbird, pin- tailed whydahs and etc.
Best Getting there to Gahinga Lodge
From Entebbe/Kampala to Kisoro, the closest town to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park takes approx. 10 hours. A 4×4 car is Highly recommended.
By Air
Many domestic air Transport offer scheduled or chartered flights to Kisoro. It can be from Entebbe airport or Kajjansi air strip to Kisoro. Tourists can be picked in a safari vehicle to the lodge.
