Day 1: Arrival Entebbe International Airport
Upon arrival your assigned 14 days Mountain Rwenzori Uganda trek private guide will meet you at Entebbe International Airport and will transfer you to Karibu Guesthouse for your evening dinner and over night for accommodation.

Day 2: Transfer To Kasese
After your morning early breakfast commence your journey to the Rwenzori Mountain National Park trail head at Nyakalengija by way of Kampala and Fort Portal. Lunch to be taken in Fort Portal and then proceed to Mihunga. Check into Mihunga Safari Lodge, at the foot of the Rwenzori’s for bed and breakfast.

Day 3: Trek to Nyabitaba From Nyakalengijo
We will start the Rwnzori Mountains trek to Nyakalengija trail head (1600 metres) where the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) will provide and informative briefing prior to commencing the trek. The trail passes along the western bank of the Mubuku River, passing through villages and slopes down towards the river, passing through lowland equatorial forest. Reaching the river, the path bears left away from the river, through more forest until one comes to a small bridge. Crossing the bridge, one starts climbing a moderately steep ridge.

Day 4: Trek to John Matte Hut
After morning breakfast you will Depart Nyabitaba hut and head westward on a trail for a half a kilometres and drop down northwards through a forest to Kurt Shafer Bridge. Continue out of the forest Nyamileju hut after which you will start the giant leather, lobelia and groundsel zone; the extraordinary vegetation types found only on high altitude tropical African Mountains. Proceed to John Matte for dinner and overnight, the journey can take up to 6 hours of hiking from Nyabitaba to John Matte.

Day 5: Trek to Bujuku Hut
After breakfast trail crashes down to cross the Bujuku River and enters Lower Bigo Bog, home of giant lobelias. Cross the bog to the Upper Bigo bog before continuing to Lake Bujuku where views of the highest mountain – Stanley – to the west are to be seen..

Day 6: Trek to Elena Hut
Continue the circuit west of Bujuku Hut on a trail rising and falling twice before ascending steeply through the magical Groundsel Gully towards Scott Elicot Pass (4,372m). As you continue with the trail branch off to the right and finally head to Elena Hut (4,372m). This is the base camp for climbing Margherita Peak (5,109m), and requires special hiking.

Day 7: Ascent to Mt. Stanley to Kitandara Hut
From Elena Hut you ascend the last tract of rock and ice which leads to Margherita Peak on Mount Stanley, 5.109 m. You might take about 3 -4 hours to complete the climbing. You need crampons, ice axe and rope as you walk through what remains of the glacier area of Mount Stanley. The peak was first climbed by Prince Luigi Amedeo the Duke of Abruzzi at 9.30 am on 18th June 1906. The trail descends down to Upper Kitandara Lake and Lower Kitandara Lake, where is located Kitandara Hut, 4.023 m. arrival point for the day. It can take approximately 3 hours walk. This is the best place for planning the ascent of Mount Luigi di Savoia and Mount Baker.

Day 8: Trek to Guy Yeoman Hut
The Rwenzori mountains trek trail continues after breakfast, climb from the base of Mt. Baker to the south side of the mountain to the Fresh Field Pass (4280 metres). From there we can view the Congo to the west, Mt. Stanley to the north. From the pass, the boggy trail will continue downwards, passing the rock shelter at Bujangalo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906.

Day 9: Trek to Nyakalengija Trail & Transfer to Q.E.N.P Lodge
The trail to Nyabitaba Hut can be muddy and very slippery under foot. At the foothills you will find your driver waiting and transfer straight to Queen Elizabeth National Park where you will spend the night. Queen Elizabeth national park is the most popular park in Uganda as it offers diverse ecosystems, classic big game, and 10 primate species and over 600 bird species, here we begin the second part of the Rwenzori mountains trek & wildlife safari trail.

Day 10 – Queen Elizabeth National Park
After a morning early breakfast you will spend the whole day exploring the park further. Starting off with an early morning game drive in the Kasenyi where you will be able to spot lots of wildlife and bird species. You will later head to the Mweya peninsular for a boat trip on Kazinga Channel. The Channel is home to one of the greatest concentration of hippo in Africa and herds of elephant, buffalo and other animals come to drink at the water’s edge. The channel is a magnet for water birds, with great flocks of pelicans and others birds on the shore, and a great spot to see African fish eagle.

Day 11: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Ishasha Sector
After your morning breakfast you will conduct an early morning game drive in Ishasha sector in search for tree climbing lions. We will drive further south to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is of Uganda´s oldest and most diverse rainforests. The “impenetrable” forest is also home to more than 320 mountain gorillas, 400 species of plants, 120 species of mammals and over 350 species of birds. On arrival, you will have lunch at the lodge and later proceed for an afternoon walk in the community where you will have the chance to visit the pygmies (Batwa) to discover about their customs and way of life.

Day 12: Transfer to Nkuringo – Nature Walk Safari Bwindi impenetrable National Park
Today we will transfer to Bwindi impenetrable N. Park – The home of the mountain Gorillas. We will drive through Ruhija and later to Nkuringo Gorilla lodge with the jeeps. There is an option to walk through the forest from the western side to the southern side a very rewarding nature walk through the Bwindi forest with lots of nature to see and on a good day you can meet Gorillas or chimpanzee. And those who prefer can walk through the Forest with a guide and we can pick them up from the other side of the forest after a 4hrs walk. (Optional Activity). The drive around is also a very beautiful scenic drive through rolling hills with jaw dropping scenery through the Bwindi forest and villages.

Day 13: Gorilla trekking – The Ultimate wildlife encounter.
Today after an early breakfast, we will transfer to the briefing point for the ultimate gorilla trekking experience. This activity takes between 4 and 7 hours in the forest depending on where the Gorillas were left the previous day. It’s an amazing encounter with Humans closest relative and a once in a lifetime wildlife encounter. We will later return to the lodge for relaxation and winding off the gorilla encounter experience stories over a campfire drink-up.

Day 14: Transfer to Kigali & genocide memorial tour.
Today after a relaxed breakfast, we will cross over to Rwanda – Kigali for the genocide memorial museum tour. The Drive to Kigali with boarder crossing is about 4 hours. We should be able to arrive in Kigali for lunch at a very great restaurant on Ubumwe and later go for the Gisozi genocide memorial centre with a brief short city tour.
Depending on your flight schedule. We will transfer to the Kanombe airport for your connecting flight back home after the Mountain Rwenzori Uganda.
