NGORONGORO CRATER
Regarded one of the seven wonders of Africa in Arusha in Tanzania. Ngorongoro crater is the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled Volcanic caldera. It lies in Ngorongoro Conservation area as the main feature. The area is near Serengeti national park with its endless plains which connects to Masai mara game reserve in Kenya.
The area also is comprised on of Olduvai gorges which is considered to be a seat of humanity after the discovery of the earliest known specimens of human origin. This is another tourist attraction in the area. It was named after the Masai word (the local people in the area) Oldupaai which means the wild sisal plant. The place has attracted researchers and Mary and Louis Leakey in the 1950s pioneered the excavation work.
Ngorongoro crater is known for abundancy of wildlife attracting many tourists in the area, some of them includes lions, elephants, cheetahs, wild dogs, leopards, buffaloes, Hippos, wildebeest, antelopes and etc. The source of water in the crater is Ngoitokitok springs, the place has a swamp and the area is inhabited by many animals, the place is ideal for wildlife viewing.

Game drives:
This is among the Highlight of visiting Ngorongoro conservation area, the crater is rich in abundancy of wildlife. In a safari jeep with pop up roof, look out for animals like the big five (Elephants. Lion, Leopard, Rhinos and Buffaloes) other animals include wildebeest, Antelopes, and etc.

The Balloon safaris are common in Ngorongoro conservation area, this is where wildlife and other attractions are seen from above in a hot air balloon, enjoy the endless plains, vegetation and etc.

The area/ crater is known to be a home to many different species of birds. For birders, this is a perfect place, look out for birds like lesser flamingo, ostrich, secretary bird, living Turaco, African spoonbill and etc.

Best time to Visit Ngorongoro Conservation area.
The best time to visit Ngorongoro is the dry season months June, July, Aug, October, January and February. During that period, that’s when the great wildebeest migration happens, the trails are not muddy and also the vegetation is a bit shorter allowing clear view. But the place can also be visited in wet season as well.
